What to Do if You Struggle with Overly Sensitive Teeth

Posted on 5/10/2021 by SRD Russellville
What to Do if You Struggle with Overly Sensitive TeethHave you ever felt a twinge on your gumline when you take a big breath on a wintery morning? A similar sensation may happen in the summer when you take the first bite of an ice cream cone and swish it around in your mouth. You may feel a sharp sensitivity. Hot drinks such as tea and coffee can also aggravate sensitivities in your mouth. Sugar laden foods, like what kids acquire at Halloween, can create unexplainable and often acute discomfort. When it happens, you know it. The sensation can come and go quickly, but you feel it. If any of these scenarios make you cringe, chances are you have sensitive teeth.

Stop Being So Sensitive

Some people can sip an icy drink with no problem. Others feel every discomfort in one or more teeth. Still others can effortlessly and painlessly slurp a mouthful of soup. However, that may be the last bowl of soup some would want to indulge in due to the pain. It is not a matter of being overly sensitive if you can relate to these situations. It sounds more like you have one or more sensitive teeth.

The Most Important Action Item

If you have sensitive teeth, it is important to maintain your brushing routine twice a day. Choose a soft bristled toothbrush. Choose a toothpaste formulated to protect sensitive teeth. Several toothpastes offer this protection. Make sure you are flossing as well.

The most important thing you can do for sensitive teeth is to come into our office for an exam. Not only should you schedule checkups every six months, but if you encounter sensitivities in your mouth it is important to come in right away. It is possible to ease the discomfort of sensitive teeth and we can help you manage your discomfort.
