Why We Recommend You Upgrade Your Toothbrush Every Three Months or Sooner
Posted on 12/23/2021 by SRD Tuscumbia
Your toothbrush is an important tool to help you fight tooth decay. Next to toothpaste and floss, your toothbrush is arguably the best thing you can use to keep your teeth clean. Let's face it, your toothbrush is practically a member of the family, but is it time to change your toothbrush?
Upgrade My Toothbrush?
Some people get pretty attached to their toothbrush. Maybe it has fancy animated characters on it. Maybe it has just the right grip. Maybe it has been with you as long as you can remember. Regardless of the attraction, your toothbrush may need to be replaced.
We typically tell our patients to change their toothbrush at the start of each new season. At the beginning of winter, spring, summer, and fall is a great time to change your toothbrush. The seasons are perfectly timed every three months and that is a great time to change your toothbrush.
It is important to change your toothbrush regularly. Bacteria can build up in your toothbrush, especially if it does not dry adequately between your morning and evening brushing. Over time, the bacteria could be more detrimental than you think. Also, bacteria can be passed from one toothbrush to the next. Be sure to change your toothbrush after an illness or if you have recently had a mouth sore.
Changing your toothbrush regularly is important so the bristles can do their job. If the bristles on your toothbrush are worn and matted, they will not do much good. Buy a soft bristled toothbrush and enjoy the feeling of brushing your teeth.
Toothbrushes Should Be Temporary
