What Are the Primary Causes of Receding Gums?

Posted on 11/7/2022 by SRD Tuscumbia
What Are the Primary Causes of Receding Gums?Several factors can cause receding gums. Below are some of those factors that might be contributing to your gums receding.

Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease occurs as a result of intense gum infection. These infections cause damage to the tissue and bones of the teeth and jaws that offer support to the teeth. The disease causes more complications if left unattended, and in some cases, it may result in cancerous growth. However, dentists can treat this condition with necessary dental procedures.

Genetic Hereditary

Receding gums may result from genetic inheritance of families susceptible to this condition. The genetic makeup is essential in how the teeth grow and develop and how the teeth will respond to bacterial infections.

Brushing the Tooth too Hard

Individuals exposed to long periods of challenging brushing experience bleeding gums resulting from the stiff bristles in the toothbrush. Replacing hard toothbrushes with soft brushes allows easy brushing of the Tooth smoothly, reducing receding gums.

Hormonal Changes

In people, especially pregnant women, hormone imbalances cause health complications that may develop receding gums. The hormonal changes cause the gum tissues to soften and become vulnerable to bacterial attacks.

Frequent Tobacco Use

Tobacco users are more susceptible to receding gums. Cigarettes and chewing tobacco have severe effects on the gums by causing the formation of plaques that are challenging to remove. In addition, the plaque may build up, making the gum tissues soft hence causing bleeding.

Grinding Teeth

People who often have grinding teeth are more susceptible to receding gums. Due to stress and anxiety, the effect puts pressure on the teeth that cause damage to the teeth and the gums, primarily if fractured and broken teeth occur due to this effect.

Generally, individuals can prevent receding gums by maintaining proper dental hygiene practices, such as using soft brushes and brushing softly to avoid bleeding. Also, a dentist can deal with severe dental issues such as periodontal diseases with surgical procedures to prevent receding gum.
