4 Signs You Are a Candidate for Dental Implants

Here are four signs that you are a perfect candidate for dental implants:

1. You Have Healthy Gums

To provide support and strength to the implants, you need to have healthy gums, but if you have gum disease, you need to take care of it first.

Damaged or diseased teeth generally cause gum disease. Suppose you want to have all of your teeth replaced by dental implants. In that case, you will have to remove all of your remaining teeth to solve gum disease.

Gums start becoming healthy when teeth causing the gum disease are removed. Once your gums are healthy, you will be able to qualify for dental implants.

2. You Have Sufficient Bone Size and Structure

A dental implant is embedded into the jaw bone. If your jaw bone is too weak or if the structure of the bone has become too soft, then it will not be able to provide sufficient support to the dental implant.

To see if you qualify for an implant, a dentist will conduct a dental examination. If they find that your bone isn't in good shape for the implants, you will have to opt for special procedures to rebuild your bone in order to get implants with ease.

3. You Are Suffering from Tooth Loss

You are a candidate for dental implants if you are suffering from tooth loss.

There are several common causes of tooth loss, including facial trauma or periodontal disease. Dental implants are the perfect solution for tooth loss and are also super versatile. They can replace a single tooth, several missing teeth, or even an entire arch of missing teeth.

4. You Do Not Drink or Smoke

During your initial examination, you will be asked about your lifestyle habits, such as smoking and drinking behaviors. Since alcohol use can cause blood clots and lead to issues during surgery, your dentist will ask you about it.

Your dentist will also ask you if you smoke or consume other tobacco products since these can affect oxygen in your blood and slow the healing process. Cigarettes and tobacco products can also weaken your immune system, increasing the risk of infection.

If you smoke or drink, it does not mean that you can't get implants, but you will need to quit these habits before surgery and for the duration of your treatment.
