Dental Bonding Florence, AL
At Singing River Dentistry we offer several procedures to give you a celebrity smile. Dental bonding is a gentle, non-invasive procedure that can improve or even restore a person's smile and the overall appearance of their teeth. This is one of the easiest and most cost-effective cosmetic dental procedures due to its simplicity. The results, however, are priceless. A tooth-colored resin (comprised of durable plastic) is applied to the teeth, then set with an ultraviolet light to literally bond the material to a patient's teeth.
Bonding addresses several dental issues. These include cavity fillings, repairing tooth decay, to improve discoloration, spaces between teeth, to change the shape/length of teeth, fill in chips, or even protect the root of a tooth which has been exposed by a recess in the gumline. Unless several teeth need to be treated, the process can be completed in just one visit. Unlike veneers or crowns, no custom coverings need to be manufactured, which further reduces the time needed to complete bonding work.

The Bonding Process
When you come in for bonding work expect a fast, simple procedure that does not require anesthesia (unless for a filling) or complex aftercare. You can even go on with your usual day after leaving our office.
Our dentists will start by matching the composite resin to the shade of your teeth. This will provide a more natural-looking result. After the right color has been selected, the tooth surface is gently abraded (with minimal enamel loss) then brushed with a special conditioning liquid. This substance helps the bonding compound adhere more firmly to the teeth. Next the tooth/teeth are shaped, and the resin is hardened with ultraviolet light. If necessary, the teeth are further shaped after this step. From start to finish, our bonding treatments generally last only 30-60 minutes.
After having your teeth bonded no special care is needed, only good oral hygiene is necessary. To avoid stains, we do recommend avoiding food or drinks that might cause staining for 48 hours. One important thing to know is that the bonding material can chip. Avoid biting your nails, chewing on hard objects (especially ice and hard foods), or using your teeth as an "opener". Since the resin is porous, smokers need to be aware that it will yellow from cigarette smoke and vary in color from the other teeth. Bonding can last for several years, but keep in mind the resin is not as strong as your actual teeth.
This procedure does require some artistry in sculpting the tooth for optimum results. All dentists at Singing River Dentistry have performed countless bonding treatments and have the requisite skills to create completely natural smiles.
